Pre Departure
When is the best time take part on a tour?
Interestingly volunteer programs and projects happen all round the year. There are some projects which have fixed arrival and departure dates while others consent to your own chosen arrival time. For more information you can check out the general information section of your chosen experience.

How many days can I come for and is it possible to extend my stay?
The projects that basically runs from 2 weeks to one year. However most of the projects will be recommend min of 4 weeks and up, and ends within a time frame of the projects. Many a times the time frame is determined by visa requirements and situations of the respective country that we work in. The stay can be extended if there is an availability of a project. If you contact our main office in the USA of ask your field coordinator, we can arrange for your extension. You can also contact our representative for all details.

Can I be a part of more than one project?
Yes you can. A lot of people opt to do a lot of projects even while they are traveling. We can always assist you in your internal travel schedules and can advise you on other projects that might interest you.

Is there a discount scheme if I participate in more than one program or if I have already been on a program before?
Those who have already been with our program before will have the benefit of a 10% discount (land cost only) on any trip booking in the future.

How much in advance must I book?
It is always better to book about at least 3 months or more in advance. For booking you will have to first read the terms and conditions and fill up the application form with a payment of $200 which will be consider for application fee for your booking. This nonrefundable application fee will not be deducted from you overall program fee. In case you do not get a placement, we will refund your $200 application fee.

Is a non-American eligible to apply?
Yes, there are volunteers of all nationalities and we accept and include them in our projects. A lot of our volunteers come not just from the USA/Canada but from Europe as well Australia and
New Zealand. We have competent staff members who will eagerly guide you in the process of reservations and will advise you on all other travel necessities.

Could you explain the working of the application process?
Here are a few steps that we follow to complete your application process:

Call, Email or Fill up online reservation request form (below) to check the availability of seats on the trip. Check the numbers listed on the contact page. Alternatively, you can e-mail to sales@discoverasiatours.com .If we receive any queries we will promptly reply them.
You will have to fill up the application form and submit it to us along with a $200 program nonrefundable application fee for your booking either by cheque/money order/credit card. The amount is payable only in US$.
Once we have received your application along with fee for your booking, we will first send you a confirmation of receipt. The application will then be sent to the country coordinator for processing. The process will take about 2 weeks time. All the arrangements including your projects details and food and room will be made during this time.
As soon as you receive our confirmation, you can start preparing for the trip. You can start gathering all the necessary documents like passport, visas and to get immunized.
After you buy your tickets you can fax us a photocopy of your passport and itinerary. All participants will have to make a full payment of the program fee at least 60 days prior to departure.

Can I bring a friend along, or come as a couple?
Yes you can come with your spouse or a partner or a friend. Please note that we cannot guarantee that home stay or host project placements will be at the same place.

Is experience a criterion?
No, experience is not required. You will just have to know to speak a little English.

Is there a process for selection?
Yes. We only accept a complete application form which is required for all projects. These ensure your safety and also accounts later for the success if a given project. For certain projects interviews are required as well. Most interviews are conducted over the phone.

Can I travel before or after a program?
Yes you can arrive early for any exploration that you can do and join a project. We allow volunteers to first adjust before you move alone to a new country. We also introduce you to a group of traveling companions.

Am I allowed to leave early from the program?
It is difficult to make provisions for volunteers to leave early. But if you insist on leaving early you can contact us and we can make special provisions for you. It is important that you give us a notice in advance as this process may take time. In some cases you might also be levied some nominal extra charges which will be used to transfer you.

What must the age of an average Volunteer be?
A volunteer must be of at least 18 years. Otherwise there is no age bar.

What would be the cost of a program?
The cost of all programs depends on requirements and they vary largely due to geographical locations. You can have a fair idea about the cost of projects by looking at the dates and price page.

What is the mode of payment?
You can make your payment by credit/debit card, by cheque, money order or wire transfer through bank. There is a clearing charge of 2.5% on credit card payments on final balances. No charge on deposits( Application fee) is levied. All payments must be made in US Dollars.

Are any extra costs levied?
This will depend on the program you choose. Food, accommodation, equipments, training and excursions will be included. The only extra money you will require will be for your own expenses.
International flights, Departure tax, internal transfers, entrance fee, any permit fee, medical assessment and travel insurance are not included.

Travel Requirements

Is insurance required?
All programs require a comprehensive insurance. This is an essential part of being a part of a project. If you do not have a comprehensive insurance you will not be allowed to join a project. We recommend that you get your insurance from Travelex Insurance Services.

Do I require getting a Visa?
This depends on the nationality that you possess. How it is likely that for any country you visit in Asia, you will need to get a visa. You can get a visa by going through a visa processing service we recommend Zierer Visa Services
You can also directly apply to the nearest consulate of the country that you are traveling to.

Will my flights be arranged by you?
No, we will not be arranging for your flights. You will have to book them yourself. The program cost does not include any air travel fare and you must make all arrangements through your travel agent.

On the Project

Will I be received at the airport?
Yes. Upon your arrival, our representative will pick you up from the airport.

What kind of support and guidance will I get?
Our representatives are always keen to provide you with all the information that you need to know. All of our partners are committed to making your trip a big success. We will always be just a phone call away and there will always be someone to correspond to any of your queries via email.

What kind of accommodation can I expect?
Accommodations basically depend on where you are traveling to. It varies with regions brought about basically by local conditions. However, the guarantee we can provide you is that accommodations range from the basic to the moderate. They will of course be hygienic, with clean bathrooms and with all the basic amenities.
Normally when you get a host family, there will be a separate bedroom for you and a shared bathroom. However in some cases you may have to share a bedroom with another participant with same genders. A participant’s friend is not allowed to make use of accommodations or meals of the host family. In case you want to spend a night or some days away from the host family, you will have to do it entirely on your own cost.

What kind of food will I get?
The food will be local, meaning something that will be the staple diet of the respective region. You will be given food about two to three times a day during every project period. The host family will not serve any separate meals for you. It will be a family meal for everyone. Sometimes if you want to eat something else, you will have to supplement it on your own expenses. If requested, the host family will provide you boiled water for drinking and brushing your teeth. The host family will not provide you with special diets, other beverages or mineral water.

I have special dietary requirements, what should I do?
If you have special dietary requirements, you can contact your representative for assistance. In such cases, neither will the host family, nor Discover Asia tours is obligated to assist you. If you require any additional diet to the meals provided by the host family, you will have to arrange it on your own expense.

How fit do I need to be to undertake a certain project?
Some of the regions require a certain degree of fitness. Spending a lot of time in such places can become difficult otherwise. If a certain amount of physical fitness is required, it will be clearly mentioned on the program homepage.

Do I get free time?
Yes, you will get some free time. There are times when you have to be totally committed to the schedules, doing your volunteer work, we encourage you to take your time off and explore the locales, the culture around the place and other attractive things that might interest you. We will also organize for you excursions and other activities.
